Brothers J2, J3 and I had the opportunity to spend a fantastic evening raising two Brothers to the Sublime Degree last night. Evenings like this always remind me that it is the work in Freemasonry that really matters. Take out the politics, take out the pomp and circumstance and we dwell together in unity. The interesting part of it is that Degree meetings tend to have the smallest turnout. While I can’t speak for others, I can only imagine that my experience must be vastly different than one that only attends Stated Meetings. Not a bad experience…just different.
Of course, my experience must pale to those that are even more involved than I. I envy the Brother that can make the type of commitment that I hope to one day attain.
Oh yeah. Refreshments were de-lish…if I do say so myself.

Sometimes it seems as though all the work we plan and do in Freemasonry comes at the most inconvenient times and then a circumstance such as the one I experienced last night comes along. Last evening I had the opportunity to meet with a group of my Brothers at our local Masonic Temple to rehearse for our upcoming Scottish Rite Degrees.
On the drive home in the rain I found myself pondering “how good and how pleasant it is for Brethren to dwell together in unity” when another thought arrived directly on the heels of that concept: sometimes it seems as though the “Work” we do is simply an excuse for Brethren and good friends to spend some time together, re-solidifying friendships that might otherwise fall victim to the nature of how busy everyone is, and thereby suffer for want of a reason to meet with one another every now and then. I seem to recall learning this lesson some years ago – it was a welcome re-education.
Thanks to the Brothers who let me join in last night – it was a perfect excuse to enjoy what really matters to me in Masonry. “Oh ye millions” and you know who YOU are…”This ‘Oatmeal’ is for you.

Thanks to our newest member of The Setting Maul: “Rrelion” who registered a day or two ago and sorry for the delay in your Brotherly welcome to the website. We have a good many other Brothers who listen from the Great State of Pennsylvania but we certainly welcome more, and more, and more.
I am pleased to meet you thus “Online” (stole this from another Brother and would give him proper credit but alas I forget where I heard this first). Brother Rrelion we’re glad you enjoy lessons of Freemasonry but more importantly “Laughing with Brothers.” We do a bit of that here.
